How to Tell if a Dating Profile Is Fake
A fake profile can say anything in its bio, but it has to show pictures, and pictures can be checked. Here is how to test a match's photos on Tinder, Hinge, Bumble or any other app before you share anything personal, starting with the detector.

1. Screenshot every photo
Dating apps do not let you save other people's pictures, so open each photo full screen, screenshot it and crop away the app's buttons. Check all of them, not just the first. Fake profiles often mix one real photo stolen from someone else with generated ones, or use five pictures that are plainly from a single photo shoot of a model.
2. Run each photo through the AI detector
Drop the screenshots into the checker above one at a time. Each returns the probability that a generator made it. A profile where most of the photos score high is built on people who do not exist. A low score is not a clean bill of health: stolen photos of real people are still the more common trick, which is what the next step catches.
3. Reverse search the photos

4. Know what the verified badge proves
Tinder, Hinge and Bumble each offer a selfie check that adds a verified badge to the profile. It shows that the person holding the phone matched the photos when they verified. It does not show that the name, job or story is true, and an unverified profile is not automatically fake. Treat the badge as one signal among several.
5. Watch the conversation, not just the pictures
- No video call. Excuses every time a call is suggested, months into talking.
- Leaving the app fast. A push to move to WhatsApp, Telegram or text within the first few messages, away from the app's reporting tools.
- A story that keeps them far away. Working abroad, on a rig, on deployment or with a charity overseas.
- Money, in any form. An emergency, a customs fee, a gift card, or an investment tip that involves crypto. This is the point of nearly every fake profile.
