Checking a video? This detector works on still images, not video files. Take a clear screenshot of a frame that shows the face and upload that image — it's analyzed exactly like any other photo.

Your image runs through a model trained on millions of real and AI-generated pictures and returns the probability the face or scene is synthetic.

Deepfake vs. AI-generated image — what's the difference?

A deepfake takes a real person and swaps or synthesizes their face onto an existing photo or video — think a celebrity's face on someone else's body, or a politician "saying" something they never did. A fully AI-generated image is invented from scratch by a generator like Midjourney, DALL·E, or Stable Diffusion — the person in it doesn't exist at all.

Both leave statistical fingerprints that a genuine camera photo doesn't, which is why our detector flags either one. It returns a single probability that the image is synthetic rather than a real, unedited photograph.

How to spot a deepfake by eye

  1. Blurry or smeared edges where the face meets hair, ears, or neck
  2. Skin tone or lighting on the face that doesn't match the body
  3. Teeth and eyes that look "off" — misaligned, too even, or oddly reflective
  4. Flicker or warping around glasses, earrings, and hairlines
  5. A face that stays unnaturally smooth while the background is sharp
  6. Mismatched shadows between the face and the rest of the scene
  7. Frozen or subtly wrong expressions, especially around the mouth

These tells are getting harder to see as the technology improves — which is exactly why an automated detector is a useful second opinion.

Detect AI-Generated Images

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if a photo is a deepfake?

Upload it to our free deepfake detector — it returns the probability the face or scene was AI-generated or synthetically manipulated, so you get an objective signal in seconds.

Can this detect deepfake videos?

It checks still images, not video files. To check a video, screenshot a clear frame showing the face and upload that image.

What's the difference between a deepfake and an AI-generated image?

A deepfake swaps or synthesizes a real person's face; a fully AI-generated image is created from scratch. The detector flags both, because both differ statistically from a real camera photo.

Is the deepfake detector free?

Yes — completely free, no account or sign-up required.
