AI or real? Is this image AI? Is this photo AI-generated?
However you phrase it — AI or real, is this image AI, is this photo AI-generated, or was this made by AI — the reliable way to answer is to measure the picture, not eyeball it. Modern generators like Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion, Flux, and Grok have gotten good enough that a convincing image can still be fully synthetic.
Upload the picture and the detector returns a single number: the probability it was AI-generated. A high score is a strong signal it's synthetic; a low score points to a genuine camera photo.
AI or real image checker: a worked example
These two pictures are the examples built into the checker. One is a real photograph, one was generated. Try each with the buttons above and compare the scores.
Three questions settle most cases:
- What does the score say? Above about 85%, the model is confident the image is AI. Below 15%, confident it is real. In between, it is a lean, not an answer.
- What does the file say? Camera make, lens and capture settings in the EXIF point to a real photo. A generator name or AI Content Credentials settle it the other way. Nothing at all means the file was re-saved, which is normal for anything downloaded from social media.
